Dear SIG Friends:

My name is Alexis Kallen, and I’m thrilled to introduce myself as Chair of Stanford in Government (SIG) for the 2017-2018 academic year! Since my freshman year, the strong SIG community has helped me become a passionate change agent and find a home at Stanford. The friends I’ve made in SIG have challenged and empowered me, SIG speakers have opened my mind to new ideas and debates, and SIG’s Cardinal Quarter opportunities have allowed me to explore the meaning of policy as public service firsthand. I’m incredibly proud to lead this extraordinary group.

I want as many students as possible to share the experiences I’ve had in SIG and explore policy as public service at Stanford. For that reason, I am committed to creating space for underrepresented voices in government, harnessing the current spike in interest to inspire more people to become involved in policy work, and cultivating an empowered community within SIG, where all members find mentors and feel valued.

As we look to the year ahead, we have assembled a team of leaders who are intentional about about how to create more space for people from all different backgrounds in SIG’s community, events, and fellowship opportunities. In addition to the Board, I have appointed a group of three seniors who will lead our efforts to focus on inclusivity in SIG’s marketing, fellowship opportunities, and events.

I welcome your ideas as I launch my year as SIG Chair. This is an exciting time to be a leader in SIG, and I can’t wait to get started!

Warm regards,

Alexis Lynn Kallen
