Organization Description 

The National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD) is a non-profit organization focused on building community, sharing resources, and shaping policy to help individuals with learning disabilities and attention issues. For more than 45 years, NCLD’s dedicated team has worked to create accessible and inclusive environments for those hidden in plain sight for generations.

Description of the Work

The fellow will develop materials to inform the team and/or external audiences about novel and emerging trends and issues related to the education of students with learning disabilities. The fellow will participate in education and disability-rights coalition meetings, and will independently attend virtual policy events, briefings, and Congressional hearings. The fellow will assist with NCLD events related to policy and advocacy including NCLD’s LD Day of Action in Washington, DC. The fellow will also participate in planning and implementing communications and marketing efforts related to Public Policy and Advocacy including, but not limited to, blog, Facebook and twitter posts, emails and action alerts.

Desired Skills

We are looking for a fellow with excellent research, writing and analytical skills. We would prefer someone who also has exceptional communication skills especially writing abilities. We hope to have someone who desires to advocate for children and adults with learning and attention issues and a basic knowledge of learning disabilities and education and disability policy issues. An ability to adapt and be flexible when the circumstances and agenda demand it would also be helpful. The fellow should also be able to work as part of team, but complete projects and work independently.
