Office Description
The Sivis Institute is a nonpartisan, nonprofit think tank dedicated to influencing and strengthening Brazil’s democratic culture through education and freedom of expression. Our purpose is to reinforce democratic values, and we achieve this through two main approaches: a) in-depth diagnostics, conducting multi-method research to understand various aspects of democracy, and b) mobilizing influential figures to engage in advocacy efforts. With over 10 years of experience in defending and promoting democracy, we have collaborated with a wide range of national and international partners.
Description of the Work
The research intern will support our team on projects focused primarily on strengthening freedom of expression, and occasionally on topics related to citizenship education. The selected candidate will contribute to literature reviews, data collection—which may be both quantitative and qualitative—data analysis, and report writing. Additionally, the candidate may also write journalistic articles on topics important to the organization.
Desired Skills
- Students from fields such as social sciences, political science, law, international relations, humanities in general, preferably in the final years of their studies.
- Interest in research in areas such as freedom of expression and citizenship education;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Ability to efficiently organize and analyze data;
- Basic knowledge of data analysis tools (Excel, Stata, etc.) is a desirable;
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills;
- Some experience in writing journalistic articles is desirable;
- Basic knowledge of Portuguese is desirable, but not required;
