Office Description
The California Surgeon General serves as the leading spokesperson on the most pressing public health issues of the time within California. The role of the Office of the California Surgeon General is to convene and communicate with partners and the public. The California Surgeon General partners with medical professionals, scientists, public health experts, innovators, entrepreneurs, community leaders, and public servants.
The Office of the California Surgeon General is advancing the health and well-being of all Californians by focusing on three key priorities, Adverse Childhood Experiences, Maternal Health, Positive Childhood Experiences, and Reproductive Health.
Description of the Work
Under the general direction of the Special Advisor for Office of the Surgeon General, the Fellow would serve as a key team member providing technical assistance and expertise on major Office priorities. The current priorities include Adverse Childhood Experiences, Positive Childhood Experiences, Maternal Health and Reproductive Health. They would also develop and recommend strategies and policies consistent with key initiatives.
The Fellow is expected to provide high-level advice and expertise on all activities and initiatives related to the Office, including responsibility for developing, planning, and evaluating programs, policies, and procedures, and making enhancement recommendations.
The Fellow may also be responsible for coordinating programmatic activities with key partners and identifying critical gaps in initiatives and developing a range of possible strategies and approaches that can align funding opportunities, and performance measures.
The Fellow may assist in staffing the California Surgeon General for speaking events and develops accurate, culturally appropriate, and audience specific presentations for use by the Surgeon General.
Example Projects Include:
1) Developing and implementing an evaluation plan for the Strong Start and Beyond Movement. California's movement to reduce maternal mortality 50% by December 2026.
2) Establishing and implementing a plan to have the Preconception Medical Assessment, PreMA, included on all University, community college, and trade school campuses/websites.

Experience with planning, implementation, evaluation and monitoring of health programs and special studies or projects.
Experience with evaluating and researching health policy issues and coordinating health programs activities.
Experience in communication best practices.

Bilingual in any of the top five threshold languages spoken by persons with limited English proficiency in California (Spanish, Mandarin, Tagalog, Vietnamese, and Korean)
