Office Description

The National Museum of African American History and Culture is the only national museum devoted exclusively to the documentation of African American life, history, and culture. It was established by an Act of Congress in 2003, following decades of efforts to promote and highlight the contributions of African Americans.

Description of the Work

NMAAHC internships and fellowships offer professional learning experiences through which an intern learns, under a mentor's guidance, about a museum field that interests them academically or professionally. 


Duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Perform online and archival research using The Museum System (TMS) software

  • Provide reports of their research and other works

  • Specific tasks are determined by the intern and supervisor.

  • Desired Majors and Areas of Study: History, African American Studies, American Studies, Museum Studies, Anthropology, and Sociology;

  • Desire to work in a national museum
