Office Description

The National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD) is a national organization that is working to improve the lives of people and young adults nationwide with learning disabilities—by empowering parents and young adults, transforming schools, and advocating for equal rights and opportunities. NCLD's work centers on federal and state level advocacy, research and innovation, and programatic efforts focused on young adult and family voices. NCLD's policy and advocacy work spans K-12 education, higher education, and the workforce development sector.

Description of the Work

Conduct research and develop materials about trends and issues related to the education of students with learning disabilities. These may include written reports, memos, letters, emails, opinion editorials, speeches and PowerPoint presentations to persuade and inform both policy makers and NCLD’s advocacy community. The specific projects will be determined at the start of the fellowship and the fellow is also encouraged to share their particular interests and strengths to inform project development.

Desired Skills

We are looking for a fellow with excellent research, writing and analytical skills. We would prefer someone who also has exceptional communication skills especially writing abilities. We hope to have someone who has a strong interest in learning disabilities and education and disability policy issues. An ability to adapt and be flexible when the circumstances and agenda demand it would also be helpful. The fellow should also be able to work as part of team, but complete projects and work independently.
