Office Description

The United States Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM) is headquartered in Hawaii at Camp Smith, in Central Oahu, a few miles outside of Honolulu. A Geographic Combatant Command, USINDOPACOM protects and defends, in concert with other U.S. government agencies, the territory of the United States, its people, and its interests. The USINDOPACOM AOR encompasses about half the earth’s surface, stretching from: the waters off the west coast of the U.S. to the western border of India, and from Antarctica to the North Pole, making it one of the most culturally, socially, economically, and geo-politically diverse areas of the globe. 

Mission: Provide consistent and responsive manpower and personnel support and services for military personnel and government civilians, ensuring maximum readiness and sustainability of the Force.

Main Roles include: Improve communication, understanding and cooperation between the J1 and stakeholders; Enhance operational manpower readiness by identifying, analyzing and acting on manpower and personnel issues and providing manpower assessments through the Joint Manning Document/Joint Monthly Readiness Review (JMRR) process; Provide highly qualified manpower and personnel for exercises and real world support; Track movement of personnel through theater, including validation of personnel requirements to meet mission readiness and tracking and managing casualty issues.

Description of the Work

An intern’s time in the Command will directly support USINDOPACOM activities and staff requirements. Activities may include command or staff directed research, support to conferences and seminars, and preparation of normal staff products such as information papers, decision papers, and executive summaries. Interns are expected to attend J59 academic development events and USINDOPACOM J92 will arrange additional opportunities for students to learn about professional opportunities on Oahu.

Must be well-organized and willing to work in a dynamic environment with high-level principals to include international counterparts. Flexibility, willingness to engage in strategic planning, and a calm demeanor are desired.
