Office Description:

The City of Oakland Department of Housing and Community Development funds the construction and preservation of affordable housing, supports homeownership, oversees Oakland’s rent adjustment program, and engages in a variety of community development programs to serve the residents of Oakland, CA.

Projects Fellow Should Expect:

The fellow would likely support several research and analysis projects as well as general department operations. The specific projects may change, but are likely to focus on implementing actions from the forthcoming Round 6 “Housing Element” the master plan for Housing in Oakland. Illustrative examples of specific policies an intern might investigate (subject to change) include anti-speculation/flip taxes, new ways to finance middle income/workforce housing projects, and similar topics.
