Dear SIG Friends,
I am thrilled to introduce you to Stefan Norgaard, the 2014-2015 Stanford in Government (SIG) Chair. Stefan has been involved in SIG since his freshman year, primarily as a member of the operations team. He brings enormous energy and enthusiasm for SIG’s mission, along with a keen sense of where SIG can institutionalize and grow. Though departing SIG leadership is admittedly bittersweet, I leave knowing that the organization is in immensely capable hands.
This year, SIG grew both in breadth and depth. To better serve our mission of connecting students with policy and public service, we expanded our civic education program, launched a new spring fellowships program, and created a forum for informal political discussion on campus. We have continued to craft diverse programming with speakers ranging from General David Petraeus to former Energy Secretary Steven Chu.
Looking toward the summer, we will be offering a record number of funded opportunities to Stanford undergraduates—38 fellowships and 22 stipends—in locations from Sacramento to Switzerland.
These expansions would not be possible without the dedication of alumni, host agencies, our donors, and SIG members, who commit their time and energy to make our programs possible. I am enormously grateful to each of them for all they’ve given the organization and look forward to seeing the contributions they will make in the years to come.
Serving as the 2013-2014 Chair has been one of the most rewarding parts of my time at Stanford, and that is due in large part to the many alumni and friends who have reached out throughout my time as chair to offer advice and support.
At its core, SIG is a community, one that spans 50 years of membership and a diverse array of policy interests. On behalf of SIG, thank you for being a part of our community and for supporting our continued growth.
